| On Oahu, the City and County of Honolulu's
Department of Environmental Services, working together with State and Federal
agencies, developed a storm water program.
Mayor Jeremy Harris kicked off the program in 1995 with famed actor Richard Chamberlain serving as the program spokesman. Since then, other celebrities like actor Jason Scott Lee, the late musician John Denver, the singing group Forte, and local comedian Frank DeLima have helped to spread the environmental message. More importantly, the City and thousands of community volunteers have actively participated in clean water efforts that didn't exist a few years ago. |
