fireworks mark America's 226th birthday.

“We need to have a little fun on the Fourth,”
says executive producer Jerry Colbert,
who's planning a Busby Berkeley-style salute
to the flag to open the annual bash on the
Capitol's West Lawn.

The concert also features
performances
by Aretha Franklin

(singing “Respect,” as well as an aria
that was not set at press time),
Chuck Berry, Lee Ann Womack,
the Charlie Daniels Band,
jazz singer Jane Monheit,
and opera singers Russell Watson
and Jerry Hadley.
